Isolana Co. x Save Philippine Seas

Save Philippine Seas (SPS) is a non-profit organization made up of dedicated and passionate seatizens who aim to empower Filipinos towards making behavior changes that benefit mother earth, especially the ocean- the lifeblood of our planet.

Starting out as an online platform back in 2011 as a response to a large-scale illegal wildlife trade case, Save Philippine Seas has continued to grow over the years. They have mobilized several environmental projects such as shark conservation through an initiative called Shark Shelter Project in Malapascua Island, Cebu and have co-founded Save Sharks Network Philippines (SSNP), a group of organizations that work on shark and ray research and conservation.

Given our current problem with ocean plastic pollution, Save Philippine Seas also puts the spotlight on waste management sustainability through various programs, such as Sustainable Businesses for Marine Conservation (SuBMarine), in which they work with big and small companies to identify and pursue the change needed to save the earth; Waste Watchers, which is a project that focuses on reducing single-use plastics at source; and Mainstream Refilling, wherein the organization, together with the brand Human Nature, submitted a policy proposal to the government to improve existing regulations to promote safe and widely accessible refilling stations for common household products and cosmetics.

Save Philippines Seas has also geared their efforts toward environmental education with projects like Sea and Earth Advocates (SEA) Camp, a week-long intensive environmental education and leadership program for the youth with the goal of raising awareness on coastal and marine issues, promoting environment-friendly behavior, and building a network of marine conservationists.

Save Philippine Seas also rolled out Earthducation, which is their flagship program for teachers, with the goal to increase knowledge and awareness about conservation, to establish more appreciation for nature, and to teach basic skills for their shared advocacy and profession that they can also share with others.

These are just some of their many programs that are geared towards environmentalism.
